Copying this one was so COOL! I was trying hard to understand how Van Dyck had made each decision. The image looked simple but the execution was so complicated. The complexity was not about how much time required to render the details. At every stage, he understood so well that what would happen in the next stage.
Each paint layer and each technique used work perfectly with the next. Looks like an accident. I guess it is the hardest to make a right move look like a happy accident. It differentiates MASTERS from Good Artists. It differentiates God's hands to just artists' perfect rendering.
